This bit of fabric that wraps around a spool on the servo shouldn't be this long or this narrow at the end. Sourced a junk yard replacement and I have cruise again.
Also replaced the ignition control modules and now I only have a frequent miss on cylinder 4, which is better than 1, 3, and 4, and it even starts after it has rained!

I didn't until this afternoon. I half expected it to talk if I pulled the string.
The plastic end hooks to the cable that runs to the throttle, when the cruise is activated, the servo winds up the ribbon which in turn pulls the cable until it is taught, thus holding the throttle at the current speed.

I like how this looks like a modern automotive control module on the outside... yet on the inside it relies on a nylon ribbon for operation.

And about 6 bucks, worth of copper. Hard to believe a factory new one of these is nearly $400.
